Park Lane

Project Context
Park Lane is an apartment project in Elsternwick, Victoria, designed by Jackson Clements Burrows. Rising to 11 storeys and containing 24 home-sized, dual-aspect apartments, the building sits opposite Elsternwick Station Reserve and responds directly to that setting. Its architectural language draws on the character of the landscape, using form and material to temper the scale of a substantial residential building.

A darker brick podium anchors the building at street level, while the northern façade is expressed in lightly polished concrete. Above, the east and west elevations are wrapped in green-hued folded zinc cladding. This shift in material gives the upper levels a lighter reading, helping the building transition from a solid base to a more faceted and sculptural form.

Why VMZINC Was Selected
VMZINC Pigmento Green was well suited to the project because it could support both the formal ambition of the façade and the long-term demands of residential construction. The zinc allowed the cladding to be folded and detailed with precision, reinforcing the building’s angular geometry and giving the upper form a crisp, articulated finish.

Just as importantly, the Pigmento Green finish introduced colour in a restrained way. Rather than presenting as a flat applied surface, it carries a muted, mineral quality that shifts with light and weather. That subtle variation makes the façade feel more connected to the reserve opposite and better aligned with the project’s landscape-driven design approach.

Performance Advantages
For a suburban Melbourne setting, VMZINC offers durability, low maintenance and long-term visual stability. It is a material that can weather consistently while retaining its architectural character, which is particularly important on a project where the façade plays such a visible role in the overall composition.

Its malleability also made it suitable for a building defined by folded surfaces and controlled changes in plane. In this context, performance is not only about longevity, but about maintaining the clarity of the original design intent over time.

Colour/Finish & Architectural Outcome
The Pigmento Green finish is central to the identity of Park Lane. Its subdued tone softens the building’s presence and draws it into conversation with the surrounding vegetation, light and open space. Across the folded zinc surfaces, shadow and reflection give the façade depth, allowing the upper levels to read as both sculpted and responsive rather than static.

The result is a building with a strong material identity, where the cladding is not decorative but integral to how the architecture is perceived.

Summary
At Park Lane, VMZINC Pigmento Green does more than provide enclosure. It helps define the building’s form, moderates its scale and strengthens its relationship to landscape. The result is an apartment façade that is durable, carefully resolved and architecturally distinctive.
